The New Fairfield Holiday Light Parade and Tree Lighting will be bringing the enthusiasm of the holiday season right to the New Fairfield town center on Saturday, November 26th (Rain Date Nov. 27th) “This is our 5th year holding this event in town and it is so much fun” says Linda Lull, “Show your holiday spirit by entering our holiday light parade. Businesses, organizations, groups and residents are encouraged to decorate a float to help light up New Fairfield. You can decorate your motorcycle, bicycle, tractors or your pets, all are welcome to participate. Trophies will be awarded to the top best decorated fire truck, group, organization, business & individuals. This is a town wide event that would not be possible without help of our local organizations and businesses.
From 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm the celebration will begin with participation from the New Fairfield Library presenting Santa’s Workshop and Gingerbread House. Children can visit with Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves at Santa’s Workshop upstairs in the library. Children will receive a FREE book courtesy of New Fairfield Parks and Recreation and its’ Commission. Stop by the Children’s Library to visit gingerbread man in his house. Crafts will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Photos will be taken with Santa by reserved time slot only until 3:45 by calling 203-312-5633.
Don’t worry about transportation to the events from 12:30 to 4:00 pm take a FREE ride on the HART Transit Trolley. The trolley will stop in front of Town Hall making various stops around the town center and returning to Town Hall.
From 12:30 to 4:00 pm visit the following businesses in celebration of small business day: Sarah’s Gift N’ Ship – Children will have their choice of one FREE holiday craft to make. Crafts include jingle-bell necklace and Christmas ornament (children can bring wallet size photo for the ornament). Children can also participate in a FREE in-store scavenger hunt and raffle. The New Fairfield Food Center and Village Hardware Store invites children to stop by and receive a special holiday treat at each of their locations. At Bruno’s Pizzeria receive one slice of cheese pizza for $1.00. Stop by the Olde 37 Patio & Grill for a FREE hot cider and cookie. Participants age 21 and older can visit Fairwood Wines & Liquors for a tasting of a variety of wine, Heritage Wine & Liquor and New Fairfield Liquor Shop for a tasting of a variety of wine and champagne.
The entertainment will begin outside of the New Fairfield Library, where the Major Minors will sing holiday carols from 1:00 to 1:30 pm. From 1:00 to 3:00 pm Preserve New Fairfield will open the Hubble House Museum located on Route 37. Pewter Christmas ornaments and other gifts will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be offered. Join the New Fairfield Historical Society at the Little Red Schoolhouse for refreshments, a children’s craft or come to view the decorated schoolhouse.
As the day comes to a close find a spot along route 37 and get ready for the Holiday Light Parade. The Marching will begin at 5:15 pm. The parade will begin at the intersection of Saw Mill Road and Route 37 and turn right onto Route 37 heading towards the traffic light and continue pass the Town Hall. Santa will arrive at the end of the parade to light the holiday tree at Memorial Field.
Following the parade join Santa in the lighting the town Christmas tree. Sing carols along with the New Fairfield High School Chamber Ensemble at the gazebo. Warm your bones with some FREE refreshments which will be served by Starbucks, hot chocolate provided by the New Fairfield Booster Club, the New Fairfield Parks & Recreation Commission, hot cider and treats provided by St. Edwards, and cookies donated by New Fairfield Senior Center.
