On January 27th, beginning at 7:30pm, the Sherman Playhouse will be host to a special event, The Third Annual – Sherman Opry. It will be a fun, entertaining concert performed by local musicians and singer songwriters, many of whom call Sherman their home.
The Sherman Opry is a fundraiser for our town’s historic Sherman Playhouse, and all of the proceeds will go to support the playhouse and the good work of the Sherman Players in their efforts to bring great live theater to our town.”The concert will be based loosely on the concept of an old time live radio show,” said Al Burgasser who along with Susanna Marker (both from the musical group Lumos) are the creators of the show. “Our goal is to bring an evening of down home, local entertainment to our corner of Connecticut.”
Chris Marker, member of the board of the Sherman Players and a frequent performer on stage at the Playhouse, will be the host of the faux radio show, and will bring the stage to life with his special blend of humor and satire Mr. Burgasser stated, “The event is a fund raiser for the Sherman Players and Sherman Playhouse, a treasured asset to the town of Sherman. Local area musicians will be putting on a faux radio show with 12 different live acts performing on stage. Admission to the event is free, but donations to support the Playhouse will be gratefully accepted.”
The acts will be a celebration of the quality and quantity of musical talent that lives and performs in the western Connecticut area including, Sherman musicians, Missy Alexander and Bill Petkanas; Rob Brereton; Clare Costello; Robin Frome; Don Lowe; and Susanna Marker and Al Burgasser. They will be joined by surrounding area musicians Eric Gatten; Mike Latini and Jim Nowak; George Mallas; Lisa Maroon; Doug Mathewson; Greg McClure; and Nancy Walsh. Each will bring their own blend of original music, and some of your favorite songs, interspersed with the antics and challenges that come along with trying to present a live radio show.
