The creativity is flowing in New Fairfield, with residents putting time into reinventing old chairs to submit for the “Chairathon,” a Senior Center fundraiser. Most will likely have not missed seeing the interestingly decorated chairs around town, which have brought many a smile to passersby.
“We hope that a lot of people show up to bid on the chairs,” Senior Center Director Kathy Hull said in a recent town meeting, referring to the many lovely chairs that were contributed for the
event. On Sunday, August 17 at 1pm at the Senior Center there will be a live auction featuring an auctioneer with little paddles for bidding. All of the proceeds will benefit the Friends of the New Fairfield Senior Center, whose mission as a nonprofit “is to provide additional funds and community support for programs that benefit and enhance the lives of New Fairfield’s older residents.”
At NewFairfieldSeniorCenter.org the Chairathon was described as “a townwide event to benefit all of us. Following the themes of Earth Day “Reduce, Reuse,” we challenged groups and individuals to take a used wooden chair and make it into something new and appealing. We are so grateful to those friends of the Friends of the Senior Center for taking up the challenge.” There are before and after photos posted on the website and a list of all eighteen chair locations—including Gil’s Auto and Truck Repair, Olde 37 Patio and Grill, Twister’s Ice Cream, Heritage Discount Wine and Liquor, and Luks Realty. Visit the locations to preview the chairs through this Saturday, August 16.
